Rear Window

Daisy's story is below the poster.

Working with director Alfred Hitchcock was so much different for Daisy than working with the other directors had been. Hitchcock didn't discuss scenes with the actors ahead of time. Although he directed all of the scenes, he preferred to hire people who would know what was expected of them when he said, "Action."

The entire movie was shot on one set, which required months of planning and construction.. The massive indoor set even had its own drainage system for rain scenes and four light settings for different times of the day or night. The set included thirty-one apartments, of which twelve were fully furnished.

All the apartments in Thorwald's (Raymond Burr) building had electricity and running water, and could be lived in. Georgine Darcy, who played Miss Torso, actually lived in her apartment for the entire month of the filming.

Daisy lived in one of the upper floor apartments when she wasn't filming. It was close to the sound stage's arc lights which got very hot. That was uncomfortable for the human actors, but it was very comfortable for Daisy.

While shooting, Hitchcock worked only in Jeff's (Jimmy Stewart) apartment. The human actors and actresses in other apartments wore flesh-colored earpieces so that Hitchcock could radio his directions to them. Because most of Daisy's scenes were in Jeff's apartment with Hitchcock, she didn't need a hidden earpiece.

One of Daisy's favorite scenes because of the perks was the take-out dinner that Lisa (Grace Kelly) served to Jeff: lobster thermidor, a very expensive dish. As soon as the scene was finished, Hitchcock let Daisy have any leftover lobster. Hitchcock instantly became her favorite director.
